Hoegemeyer Hybrids Announces 2020 Scholarship Recipients
Hoegemeyer Hybrids is excited to announce the recipients of its 2020 Hoegemeyer Cares Scholarship: Ty Swanson from Central Community College, Hastings; Cole Betts and Macy Evans from Iowa State University; Hannah Ballard from Kansas State University; Vanessa Bohuslavsky from Morningside College; Rose Eitemiller and Taylor Eitemiller from South Dakota State University; Cole Bures and Landon Renli from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln; and Kyler Bullock from WyoTech. Each student received a $500 scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year to further their education and advocacy for the agriculture industry.
Together, Hoegemeyer Hybrids and its customers provide the monies needed for the Hoegemeyer Cares Scholarship Fund.
Ty Swanson is a freshman at Central Community College, Hastings, majoring in agricultural science. He is the son of Steve and Peggy Swanson of Wood River, Neb. Ty grew up helping on his family farm and is very active in his community, participating in FFA, FBLA, FCA and additional clubs. Upon graduation, Ty plans to stay in Nebraska and pursue a career in agriculture.
Cole Betts is a freshman at Iowa State University, majoring in agriculture studies and minoring in agronomy. He is the son of Alan and Tanya Betts of Jefferson, Iowa. Cole is actively involved in his family’s row crop and livestock operation and helped start and organize his local FFA plot. He enjoys learning various skills in the agriculture industry. Upon graduation, Cole plans to work in the agriculture field and return to help manage the family farm.
Macy Evans is a senior at Iowa State University, majoring in agricultural communications and agriculture and society. She is the daughter of Rob and April Evans of Creston, Iowa. Macy is actively involved in her family’s row crop and livestock operation and the local 4-H and FFA chapters. Upon graduation, Macy plans to earn her doctorate degree and pursue a career educating and influencing policy makers and younger generations on the best interests of the agriculture industry.
Hannah Ballard is a sophomore at Kansas State University, majoring in agribusiness and minoring in animal science. She is the daughter of Clint and Rachel Ballard of Madison, Kan. Hannah is involved in 4-H, her family’s ranch and farm operation, and is part of the Wool Judging Team at Kansas State. Upon graduation, Hannah plans to work for an agribusiness company in sales and marketing, providing resources for farmers and ranchers to improve their operations.
Vanessa Bohuslavsky is a sophomore at Morningside College, majoring in business administration and applied agriculture, and food studies. She is the daughter of Jeff and Dawn Bohuslavsky of David City, Neb. Vanessa grew up helping around the family farm, but her interest in agriculture sparked after attending the Nebraska Agricultural Youth Institute, she is also on the women’s softball team at Morningside. Upon graduation, Vanessa hopes to move back to rural Nebraska and work in agricultural business.
Rose Eitemiller is a freshman at South Dakota State University, majoring in agricultural engineering. She is the daughter of Hoegemeyer dealers Chet and Angela Eitemiller of Armour, S.D. Rose has held many officer positions in her local FFA including chapter reporter, student advisor, and vice president, and helped organize community service projects like providing harvest lunches to local farmers. Upon graduation, Rose plans to return to her agriculture community and help farmers improve processes on their operations.
Taylor Eitemiller is a junior at South Dakota State University, majoring in animal science. She is the daughter of Hoegemeyer dealers Chet and Angela Eitemiller of Armour, S.D. Taylor is active in her family’s farming operation and especially enjoys seeing results of her work, like a newborn calf growing into a marketing steer, or a blank field growing into towering corn. She also has a passion for music and is in the women’s choir at SDSU. Upon graduation, Taylor plans to work with cattle as an embryologist.
Cole Bures is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, majoring in plant biology. He is from Oakland, Neb. Cole was the president of his local FFA chapter and won several awards in agronomy competitions, combining his love for agriculture and science. Upon graduation, Cole plans to get his doctorate in plant breeding and work for a seed company.
Landon Renli is a junior at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, majoring in agribusiness. He is the son of Steve and Dallas Renli of Canton, S.D. Landon is involved in the Ag Econ club and enjoys learning how to help farmers make the best decisions for their operations while staying involved in the community. Upon graduation, Landon plans to work in agriculture sales and help on the family farm.
Kyler Bullock is a freshman at WyoTech, majoring in diesel mechanics. He is the son of Hoegemeyer dealers Brett and Suzi Bullock of Madrid, Neb. Kyler is actively involved in his family’s farming operation, taking a special interest in working on the farm equipment. He is also passionate about wrestling and working hard. Upon graduation, Kyler plans to return to the family farm to help run it and fix his own machines.
“The students studying agriculture right now are very driven and talented,” says Hoegemeyer general manager Jeremy Thompson. “We receive more than 200 excellent applications for this scholarship each year and we are excited to provide students with the opportunity to further their education in the agriculture industry.”
The primary target for this scholarship is high school seniors and college students who are pursuing a degree in agriculture, either at a two-year or four-year institution. Hoegemeyer plans to award ten $500 scholarships for the 2021-2022 school year. Interested students can check our website, www.therightseed.com, for scholarship applications starting in February 2021.
