Beau Romsey, a third-generation corn and soybean farmer from Gilbert, Iowa, knows the value of hard work and shared knowledge. These principles are at the heart of his farming operation and Hoegemeyer seed dealership. Along with a seed dealership, Beau and his wife, Christine, manage 2,500 acres of corn and soybeans and a custom chemical application business.

Beau's approach to farming and his business relies on meticulous on-farm research. Each year, Beau conducts 10 to 12 field trials with Hoegemeyer corn and soybeans, testing variables like nitrogen rates, seed populations, and seed treatments. Rather than simply increasing yields on his farm, Beau applies this knowledge to benefit his customers. His data-backed recommendations help farmers make informed decisions that improve their operations.

Beau has worked alongside his Hoegemeyer District Sales Manager, Scott Broesder, for over twenty years. Scott highlights Beau's hands-on approach: "Beau treats his customers' crops as his own. He doesn't just sell seed—he tests everything on his farm first. His ability to conduct on-farm trials and share those results is an asset to his customers."

Eric Solberg, a Hoegemeyer agronomist who has worked closely with Beau for six years, emphasizes Beau's commitment: "Beau constantly tests new agronomic practices, including fungicide timings and foliar feed applications. His attention to detail and data-driven decisions provide immense value to his customers and Hoegemeyer."

During his annual plot days each August, Beau showcases the results of his trials, giving farmers a chance to see new products in action. At Beau's post-harvest meeting, farmers see firsthand how the results of his on-farm research and this data may help improve their farms. His transparency and openness in sharing data help distinguish him as a reliable resource in the region.

Beau's relationship with Hoegemeyer goes beyond selling seed. His on-farm research provides Hoegemeyer with real-world testing conditions, ensuring their release products perform well under local conditions. By conducting trials and sharing results, Beau elevates the Hoegemeyer brand and supports local farmers.

In recent years, Beau's trials have consistently shown productivity gains from Hoegemeyer Hybrids, especially after its integration with Corteva Agriscience. His soybeans regularly outperform competitors, which his customers have noticed. "Several customers have called me to say my soybeans beat a competitor by four bushels," Beau says. "That kind of data makes a real difference."

Beau believes that one of the most significant improvements he's made on his farm because of his research is applying late-season treatments to corn and soy to increase productivity. He adds, "It's a game changer for my farm."

Beau and Christine's involvement extends beyond the dealership and farm. They actively participate in their local community, helping with Gilbert's annual festival day, serving on the business development committee, and supporting the local FFA and 4-H programs.

As a seed dealer, Beau's philosophy centers on honesty and straightforward advice. "I believe in being transparent with my customers," Beau explains. "If something doesn't work in my trials, I tell them. I want to provide value and help farmers make the best decisions for their operations."

For Beau, being a seed dealer goes beyond selling a product. He builds lasting relationships, provides tools for farmers to thrive, and ensures they receive value through research-backed recommendations.

Romsey's collaborative approach is refreshing in an industry often characterized by competition. He believes farmers can collectively achieve greater success by working together and sharing knowledge. His story is a testament to the power of transparency, hard work, and a genuine desire to help others thrive.
